Hello ATWB Swimmers and Parents,
I cannot express how excited I am that it is Conference week! This is the first chance to see a number of the girls swim tapered and hopefully achieve the goal times they have been shooting for all season. And while I know that I sound like a broken record, it is imperative that all swimmers are really taking care of themselves this week and are sleeping as much as possible. Saturday should prove to be a fantastic day and hopefully we do not have any athletes that are held back by illness or by being worn down.
As for this week there are a few other pieces of information I need to get out to everyone so that things run smoothly.
First, the taper group is getting done earlier and earlier. They will be done around 5:20 today and even earlier tomorrow and Friday. If you would like to pick them up to get them home earlier then by all means. However, the sectional group will still be in the water until 6:15.
Second, our team pasta party is scheduled for Thursday 10/29 at AT in the Blazer Room. The taper group should arrive around 5:30/40 with the sectional group arriving around 6:20/30. A big thanks to everyone that has volunteered food and time to make this a great event for everyone.
Third, the bus will pick up at WB at 8:15 on Saturday morning to head to Downers Grove South. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m. this year because there is no ACT. I know that there had been some confusion on this so hopefully this clarifies everything. This is a long meet so I also recommend that the girls bring plenty of food and drink to get them through. Further, all swimmers are expected to wear only ATWB apparel on deck and should be prepared to cheer for their teammates throughout the entire day.
Finally, it is my hope that all parents and fans in the stands are decked out in ATWB gear and are as loud as possible. While it is an outside chance that we can win this meet there is still a chance. Further, even if we don’t win the meet it is our goal to have as many wins and WSC All-Conference selections as possible. Be loud, be rowdy, and have fun.
Next, regarding our last few days I have a few links that I believe are beneficial to take a look at no matter if you are in the taper group or the sectional group. The first five all deal with working on turns. Looking through these quick clips of Lochte going through his walls provides a nice view at things to aim for. I have also posted a few videos of turns from practice that will give a great comparison.
After those I have 3 articles that are more than worth your time. The first is an article about fatigue from The New Yorker that looks at a number of studies involving physical output and psychological mindset. It is not long and will hopefully help. The final two deal with preparing as a swimmer. Please take the time to check them out and feel free to talk with me about anything you find interesting.
Finally, let me just say thank you to everyone for a great season. There is no doubt that I ask a great deal of this team and more often than not the girls have more than risen to the challenge. Thank you for all you do and I cannot wait for Saturday!
