Dear Parents & Swimmers,
I want to start by introducing myself as the head coach of the Addison Trail- Willowbrook Swim Team. My heart and soul has been in this team for the past 9 years, and I truly think that our team breeds an irreplaceable bond between our swimmers and their coaches. This is because of the community that surrounds this team and the foundation that it was built upon. It is a strong one, and I hope that the new and the old will continue to see this as true. I want to note a few housekeeping items that are important and also vary from the schedule that was put online originally. First, the indoor pool that we swim at is currently under construction. The address to that pool is 1776 W Centennial Place. It may remain under construction until August 31 at the very latest. As soon as the indoor pool is available, we will swim there, but until further notice, we will be at the outdoor Family Aquatics Center in Addison (120 E. Oak St). Please note that this week (Aug 10-12) we will not be having buses that take the girls to and from the pools. However, we will have buses that will take the girls from Willowbrook to Addison Trail and then onto the FAC starting August 15th. The bus will pick up the Willowbrook girls ideally around 3:15 and the Addison Trail girls around 3:45. The Willowbrook girls meet by door 1 and the Addison Trail girls meet by the fieldhouse circle drop off. This will get the girls to the pool a little before 4:00. Additionally, the practices on the 15th & 16th will run from 4-6:15 not from 2-4 because of the pool change. As many of you know, one of the requirements for being a part of a sport in District 88 is the code of conduct meeting. Code of conduct is August 10th starting at 6 PM at Addison Trail and is on August 15th at 7:00 PM at Willowbrook. Both a parent and their athlete must sign the code of conduct in order to continue participating as an athlete on the ATWB swim team so please make sure you attend these meetings! I am new to working on the ATWB website, but know that updates will be available there. There is currently a ton of information that you can access there. The website address is: http://www.atwbswimming.com/. Currently apparel and suits are available for purchase. The suit needs to be purchased before August 14th in order for it to be available for our first meet so please make that a priority. If you are unsure about sizing, we have sizes of suits available at practice for try on. I will be having our parent meeting on August 20th after our morning practice. This weekend I have my best friend’s wedding so will be rushing there after our practice. Since I have easier access to Willowbrook’s schedule and spaces, we are going to be conducting our Saturday morning practices at Willowbrook for at least the first few. That means that this Saturday (August 13) we will meet by the rock on the South side of the building for our first dry land practice. This is the off of the student’s lot. Next weekend (August 20), we will meet in the Warrior Room for our parent meeting right at 10:00. We are a strong team because of so many different reasons and we will continue to be that strong team. At this time, more than ever before, we need to come together to support one another. Because of such short notice, I currently do not have an assistant coach, but Jen Burns, a teacher at Willowbrook and one of the coaches for the Mariners Swim Program, will be serving as an interim. I want all parents to feel free to contact me about anything and everything. My philosophy is that each athletes voice counts as much as the next so any questions are welcome. As we continue to learn and grow this year, my philosophy will continue to be an open door so please take advantage of that.
